Short Course

The Trainer of Trainers Course aimed at enhancing digital education for sustainable development across Mozambique and South Africa. Delivered from 24 February to 4 July 2025, the course provided training to 52 participants including university lecturers, course developers, and ESD practitioners. The course, accredited at NQF Level 6 with 10 credits, was structured into three modules covering e-learning design, digital pedagogy, and online facilitation.

Despite challenges like time constraints and internet access, the course achieved a 36.5% completion rate, with 19 participants submitting full portfolios by the deadline, a rate significantly higher than typical open online courses, which usually range from 5-15%. The course’s interactive nature featuring bi-weekly Zoom sessions and a WhatsApp group for continuous peer engagement was pivotal in maintaining motivation and fostering a supportive learning community.

Feedback from participants highlighted the course’s practical value, with many appreciating the flexibility in scheduling and the use of digital tools. Recommendations for future iterations include integrating more assignment-focused weeks, offering multiple Zoom session time slots from the start, and enhancing peer collaboration through optional study groups.

This course’s success and the positive participant engagement signal its potential for expansion, with plans to offer it again in 2026, supporting the ongoing digital transformation of higher education in Africa.
