Background
The awareness course is intended to provide a general introduction to the topics of data protection and cybersecurity. Particularly, the aim of the course is to raise awareness of the importance of these topics and to highlight problems and possible solutions. The course can be offered to all students at the partner universities within different study programmes.
Materials developed within the project for the awareness course were presented at the block courses,, which were successfully held as part of the ProCyD project. See the respective articles on the first and second block course.
Selected lectures on topics such as firewalls or data protection have also been adapted to a video format, to be used to augment or aid in the delivery of the course.
In action
The Awareness Course has now been successfully launched, with Universidade Licungo enrolling 64 first-year students and University Rovuma engaging 60 additional students.
Materials from the awareness course have also been integrated into existing academic programmes at Universidade Pedagógica de Maputo. In the second semester of 2025, the content was embedded into two modules: Tema Transversal and TICS, within two degree programmes: the Computer Science Degree at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, and Estatística e Gestão de Informação (EGI) at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.
A total of 48 students participated, including 27 students from Computer Science (3 female and 24 male) and 21 students from EGI (5 female and 16 male). The awareness-related content was delivered during the final two weeks of the semester and incorporated directly into the existing curriculum. As the materials were integrated into accredited modules, students received full academic credit: 4 credits for TICS and 1 credit for Tema Transversal.
Through this approach, awareness training was successfully implemented into the existing formal coursework, ensuring both sustainability and institutional recognition of the content.
More ProCyD project partner universities will follow shortly.
